This is a bittersweet time for many families --and teachers. I'm talking about the week everyone returns to work and school after Christmas break. This year, because our schools had an additional two days off due to a snow storm, the pre-Christmas school days seem like distant memories at best. With an all teen household my family tends to keep a late-night schedule when everyone is home, so the first alarm clock going off in the New Year is always something of a shocker.

Story books have always played an important role in our life as a family. In fact, no words were more powerful in motivating our kids to cooperate at bedtime than, "If you are not in bed by the time I get to the top of the stairs there will be no stories!" So it should come as no surprise that a key part of our yearly Christmas preparations includes gathering up all the Christmas storybooks and placing them in a big basket on the coffee table.
